03 April 2009: The long awaited news has arrived. Finally a clear sign from the Government that Ireland is to become EV friendly. The agreement was signed between the Government, ESB and car maker Renault-Nissan to increase radically the usage of electric vehicles. The agreement, which is to provide infrastructure to support the Government target of making one-tenth of all road vehicles electrically powered by 2020, is to be announced by Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan in Dublin Castle today. It will detail the countrywide roll-out by the ESB of a network of refuelling points which will offer an alternative source of fuel to traditional petrol stations. The ESB is to also promote a special night-rate deal under which householders will be able to charge their cars.
03 March 2009: While petrol prices continue to be unstable and are likely to soar again. It is with glee that EV owners can tuck a further 10% of savings under the mattress from driving electric. Driving an average of 10,000km per year the 'fuel' costs of driving electric will reduce to an outstanding €96 per year compared to over €1,000 per year in a petrol equivalent. Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan said all electricity customers will see their bills reduced by an average of
10 percent from the end of April.
07 January 2009: REVA has just announced the European launch of its
lithium-ion (li-ion) battery powered electric car, the REVA L-ion. Based on the REVAi,
the latest version of the world's best selling city electric car, the REVA L-ion is the result of more than two years of testing, with a range of 120 km (75 miles) per charge and a maximum speed of 80 km (50 miles) per hour.
REVA is also introducing a fast charge station, capable of charging the REVA L-ion fully in one hour. The new REVA off-board fast charge station uses three-phase power. It is primarily aimed at organisations that require constant vehicle availability during the day and will be offered to purchase or lease. The REVA L-ion's normal full charging time is six hours using ordinary mains electricity, compared to eight hours for the REVAi with lead acid batteries.
There is only a limited amount of chargers and L-ion equipped REVA's so don't wait to book to reserve this top of the line technology.

10 December 2008: The Government plans a 20 per cent rebate on the VAT paid on company cars. The Finance Bill, which gives effect to the Budget, includes a revised version of rules on VAT payments on company cars. Under the new rules, firms can reclaim 20 per cent of the VAT incurred on the purchase, lease, or hire of a company car registered after January 1st, 2009 that is used at least 60 per cent for business purposes. The rebate only applies to cars with carbon emissions of less than 156g/km, thus falling into the emissions bands A, B or C. Great news for companies wanting to make a green statement, The REVA with less then 69g/km is not only the greenest car on the roads but offers the most affordable motoring. With the rebate you can get your hands on a company REVA for 10,600 on the road.

09 December 2009 The Green Party has welcomed an amendment to the Finance Bill permitting electric bicycles to avail of the new Cycle to Work scheme. Under the scheme commuters can claim tax relief on bicycles worth up to 1,000 EUR every five years. Following representations to Green Party Leader John Gormley and the Minister for Finance, electric bicycles, which use battery power to help cyclists pedal uphill or against wind, will be added to the scheme.
“Electric Bicycles have a role to play in reducing traffic
congestion and lowering emissions. I am pleased with the
changes proposed by the Minister for Finance this week and hope that as
many commuters as possible can look into switching from the car to the
bike, because of this scheme. For more information on how to get involved in the scheme visit:

A NEW initiative which will see charging facilities for electric cars on the streets of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in south Dublin was introduced to the public yesterday. Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council will be the first local authority in the country to introduce charging points for the environmentally-friendly vehicles. It is expected that a pilot programme will see charging points at four venues in the local authority area; Dundrum, Dún Laoghaire, Stillorgan and Blackrock The Minister urged other councils to follow Dún Laoghaire’s example. The electric cars on display yesterday, supplied by Green-Aer Mobility and Green Machines, produce no carbon emissions, are fully recyclable and exempt from VRT. They cost between 12,000 and 16,000 EUR to buy and use approximately 200 EUR worth of electricity per year.

13-18 July 2008: Here at GreenAer we are
waiting for the day when we will be able to charge with 100% renewable energy.
Until that time comes we enjoyed one of the other great ways to harness the
power of wind, we are of course talking about sailing. This years Cork Week (Irelands largest international sailing event) was bigger and
better then ever and we would like to congratulate Team Jetstream for their
wonderful effort in finishing a respectable 12th overall.

October 2007: To support GreenAer Mobility's latest initiative The
Minister for the Environment, John Gormley launched the REVAi outside
Leinster House yesterday. The Minister was positive about the REVAi
quoting:
"I welcome the addition of electric vehicles as a
positive step toward addressing Ireland's Greenhouse gas emissions
problem. Over 18 per cent of this country's C02 emissions are produced
from transport - these types of pollution free vehicles being readily
available to the public can immediately help to lessen the quantity of
pollution emitted in Ireland" .
SEI have now published a vey informative buying guide for those wishing to purchase electric vehicles, you can download the guide here. However, the REVA G-wiz is sold by GreenAer not Green Machines!.
It is now mandatory under EU and Irish law for the motor industry to clearly display the fuel economy and CO2 emissions of new passenger cars , allowing consumers to make informed purchasing choices on both environmental and economic grounds. "By choosing to purchase a more fuel-efficient car, a person can make significant savings in reduced fuel costs".
