Greenaer adopts the Bear!
12 August 2011 As advocates for clean transport we hope someday Ireland will be as cycling friendly as the Netherlands. What we realised after after a trip there that when a
bicycle becomes you means of transportation it has to be robust, strong
and comfortable. One company stood head and shoulders above the rest for their dedication to hand building superb classic Dutch Bicycles.
Bear Bicycles manufactured in Amsterdam are hand build classic Dutch bicycles that are able to withstand our Irish roads and weather conditions.
Everything is internalized so as to be hidden from the
weather: The chain is in a case, the brakes and the gears are
tucked away inside the two wheel hubs, and all the cables are fully
insulated. This bike can sit outside in the drizzle for decades with
very few ill effects. In addition, the tubes and mudguards on Bear
bicycles has a zinc foundation
been beneath a layer of lacquer – even in the hollow spots. This
virtually rules out all chance for rust.
We of course looked to the leaders in Dutch Bicycles like Bratavus and Gazelle but what we found is that that in spite of smaller profits manufactures like Bear Bicycles, have a real dedication and passion to build to traditional standards utilising today's best components and systems from the leading companies including Shimano, Schwable, Axa and Brooks.
When you ride a bike that is so aesthetically pleasing and this comfortable to ride it is hard not to fall in love with cycling a Bear! Check out the range here

Germany to take lead in electro-mobility..
16 May 2011 Merkel wants German leadership in electro-mobility. Chancellor Angela Merkel called on German industry and politics to grab the global lead in in electric mobility. The German government wants to have 1 million electric vehicles on the country’s roads by 2020 and Merkel said that “by 2030, that total could be 6 million.” Merkel said: “We want Germany to be the leader in electro-mobility, both as a market and as a provider.” She cited two major challenges: battery manufacturing, where she said she was optimistic that her country would quickly make up lost territory; and the creation of the necessary infrastructure for electric vehicles.
Electric cars take off in Norway
10 May 2011 In a country whose wealth is fuelled by oil, Oslo
has become the world capital of the electric car. There are more electric cars per capita in Oslo than
in any other capital of the world !Almost 4,000 of the small, clean and silent vehicles are on the
roads of Norway and the number is climbing as new models come onto the
market. Several incentive measures have been taken to persuade
drivers to switch to electric car :Electric cars can use bus lanes and thus bypass
traffic jams, they don’t have to shell out congestion charges and can park for
free on municipal car parks. Every EV is identified by EL on the licence plate.
Impressive...that such abigoil
producer is alsoa smallemitterof
greenhousegases.Obviouslysuchincentives are the only solution to stop oil addiction

Dakar Rally to go Electric
10 May 2011 For the
last two years, the petrol-powered ProDakar McRae Buggy 4x2, headed by driver Alister McRae, has
successfully finished on the Dakar Rally, perhaps the world's most extreme car
race. The Dakar Rally is a mad dash through 5,500 miles of remarkably
forbidding terrain. But for the 2012 race, the McCrae team has set itself a new
goal: it will be the first team to field an electric vehicle at the Dakar.

Electric Cars on the race track
10 May 2011: The new Electric Vehicles Cup announced
its inaugural series of races on Wednesday, starting on 6 August at Silverstone
in the UK . The seven-event season
starts off with four races in the UK and one in Belgium. It's said that racing improves the breed,
and if ever there was a breed of vehicles that could stand some improving, it's
electric ones...we agree but what they forgot to mention is that aside from the fresher air, EV's whizzing around a track will be far more enjoyable for our ears!

From this summer drivers will be able to recharge their electric cars from zero to 80% of their capacity in less than 30 minutes. A total of 30 fast-charge points are planned to be installed at service stations across the country. These fast-charge points will be only suitable for electric cars with lithium iron batteries.
Electric Car project Launched on the Aran Islands:
14 January 2011: The Aran Islands has been selected to take part in a three-year trial of electric vehicles. The pilot project is with Eight householders on the Aran Islands. The Aran Islands were selected as an ideal test location due to the abundance of wind and ocean energy. Drivers of the Mega e-City three-door hatchback will pay 12 for the lease of the vehicle. The overall running cost per year is estimated to be around 90. Caitríona Ní Bhuachalla, who is testing one of the cars on Inis Mór,
said that she liked the idea of using renewable energy. “They chose the
islands as they know exactly how much fuel is coming in here by ferry,
and they can compare this with the amount we use,” she said.
ESB Launches Map of Charging points in Ireland:

World's First Electric Bamboo Mountain Bike & Power Pack
26 October 2010: Greenaer's engineer and bicycle enthusiast, Simon Redden has built the first of its kind electric bamboo mountain bike with power pack. The Beautiful bike was launched this week and is built in association with a Bamboosero, a great project that empowers bike builders in developing countries. Craig Calfee from Bamboosero, is a frame designer who has built bikes for Greg Lemond and other professional racers, started Bamboosero with the idea that teaching a man (or woman) to build bikes is a long-term solution that can have a lasting impact. The bamboo frame building is carried out in Ghana. Simon selected bamboo as it has an unmatched combination of stiffness, lightweight, vibration absorption, robustness and smooth ride. The power pack system provides an impressive 700 watts from the motor and the lithium-ion 36v 12 amp hr battery gives a range up to 80 km at a speed of 35 km an hour unassisted. It has a real wow factor that has to be seen! We are taking orders for bespoke builds now. To see and trial the bike drop in to us in Pearse Street.

Support Programme announced for EV's
12 April 2010: The Irish Government recently announced a support programme for electric vehicles which supports the purchase of qualifying electric vehicles with a grant of up to 5000 euro starting 1st of January 2011. Whilst Greenaer generally welcomes additional support for the EV market we believe that this new grant scheme is now a disincentive for anyone looking at buying the quadricycle type of electric vehicles such as the REVA. Though our next vehicle, the REVA NXR, will be eligible for the grant scheme, we fear that what will end up in happening is the government grants will allow manufacturers to put the price point up for the qualifying EV's.
REVA distributors across Europe have demonstrated, with sales of the thousands of REVA's in the last five years, that the low cost quadricycle EV is a viable option to reduce urban vehicle emissions, and combined with low speeds provides a more rounded urban solution. To find out more about government grant follow the link: http://www.seai.ie/Renewables/EV_support_programme_launched/
ESB: Launches the first charging points for Electric Vehicles
THE ESB hopes to have the first on-street charging points for electric cars in place in Dublin by April 2010. The first of these points are located outside ESB headquarters and Departments of Energy. These will be quickly followed by points in place from Dublin to Cork. Twenty charging points will be rolled out initially, with 10 in the capital, six in Cork and four in other locations on the route.
Senan McGrath, Sustainability Manager, ESB Networks, said at an Engineers Ireland lecture today that 86% of Irish workers have a commute of less than 50km so battery electric vehicles could easily meet most daily needs. Mr McGrath said: “The renewed programme for Government in October 2009 has targeted a deployment of 6,000 electric vehicles over the next three years with the collaboration of ESB and international motor companies. 2010 will see the significant advancement in the introduction of charging points for these electric vehicles.” Read more:

The agreement was signed between the Government, ESB and car maker Renault-Nissan to increase radically the usage of electric vehicles. The agreement, which is to provide infrastructure to support the Government target of making one-tenth of all road vehicles electrically powered by 2020, is to be announced by Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan in Dublin Castle today. It will detail the countrywide roll-out by the ESB of a network of re-fueling points which will offer an alternative source of fuel to traditional petrol stations. The ESB is to also promote a special night-rate deal under which householders will be able to charge their cars.
Electricity Prices to fall by up tp 12 per cent
03 March 2009: While petrol prices continue to be unstable and are likely to soar again. It is with glee that EV owners can tuck a further 10% of savings under the mattress from driving electric. Driving an average of 10,000km per year the 'fuel' costs of driving electric will reduce to an outstanding 96 per year compared to over 1,000 per year in a petrol equivalent. Minister for Energy Eamon Ryan said all electricity customers will see their bills reduced by an average of
Charging ahead - REVA manufacturers launch Li-ion & Fast Charger
07 January 2009: REVA has just announced the European launch of its lithium-ion (li-ion) battery powered electric car, the REVA L-ion. Based on the REVAi, the latest version of the world's best selling city electric car, the REVA L-ion is the result of more than two years of testing, with a range of 120 km (75 miles) per charge and a maximum speed of 80 km (50 miles) per hour.
REVA is also introducing a fast charge station, capable of chargingthe REVA L-ion fully in one hour. The new REVA off-board fast charge station uses three-phase power. It is primarily aimed at organisations that require constant vehicle availability during the day and will be offered to purchase or lease. The REVA L-ion's normal full charging time is six hours using ordinary mains electricity, compared to eight hours for the REVAi with lead acid batteries.
There is only a limited amount of chargers and L-ion equipped REVA's so don't wait to book to reserve this top of the line technology.
10 December 2008: The Government plans a 20 per cent rebate on the VAT paid on company cars. The Finance Bill, which gives effect to the Budget, includes a revised version of rules on VAT payments on company cars. Under the new rules, firms can reclaim 20 per cent of the VAT incurred on the purchase, lease, or hire of a company car registered after January 1st, 2009 that is used at least 60 per cent for business purposes. The rebate only applies to cars with carbon emissions of less than 156g/km, thus falling into the emissions bands A, B or C. Great news for companies wanting to make a green statement, The REVA with less then 69g/km is not only the greenest car on the roads but offers the most affordable motoring. With the rebate you can get your hands on a company REVA for 10,600 on the road.
